VA - Go - Music From The Motion Picture (1999)

The soundtrack to the teen flick, Go, features a bunch of hip '90s artists -- No Doubt, Len, Natalie Imbruglia, Fatboy Slim, BT and Eagle-Eye Cherry among them -- doing a bunch of hip '90s things (techno-funk, alt-rock, Top 40 pop, pseudo-ska) with little else in common other than being hip and having record contracts in the '90s. At times uninspired (tracks by Esthero with Danny Saber, Lionrock and Leftfield featuring Nicole Willis) or just plain awful (Philip Steir does little more than speed up, then slow down, Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" for a gutter version of electronica), there's not a whole lot here worth remembering. The sole reason for hearing this soundtrack is No Doubt's "New," their first original song since hitting the big time two years prior. And not even that is a keeper.~Review by Michael Gallucci
