The score operates across two distinct musical domains: the folk idiom of Devon at the turn of the First World War, and a symphonic layer underpinning the production's grander theatrical set-pieces. The orchestral writing draws consciously on the English tradition — Elgar, Vaughan Williams, and Walton are audible reference points — while remaining entirely in service of the drama. A recurring trumpet motif for Joey anchors the score narratively, reappearing and transforming across all 23 tracks as the story moves from rural England to the trenches of France.
