"Hardpan" (2002) is the debut studio album by the Americana, roots rock, and folk rock supergroup Hardpan. The album was released in July 2002 on the German label Blue Rose Records.
Recording took place in September 2001 at Chris Burroughs' home studio in Tucson, Arizona. The album's production coincided with the tragic events of September 11, 2001, in the United States, greatly impacting the atmosphere of the sessions and making the album a somber "sonic reflection" of those ten days.
Each of the four members brought their own signature style to the album. The album's sound is built on a dense interweaving of acoustic and electric guitars, harmonica, percussion, and powerful four-part vocals. The lyrics focus on themes of roads, personal crises, and the American landscape.
