Jesus The Snake - Ethereal Waters (2026) [Hi-Res]

Ethereal Waters is the second full-length from Portuguese instrumental quintet Jesus The Snake, hailing from São João de Caldas de Vizela, and one of the most ambitious statements to emerge from the Iberian psychedelic rock scene in recent years. Nearly six years in the making — including a two-year hiatus and the expansion of the lineup from four to five members with the addition of Kevin Pires on synthesizers — the album marks a decisive step toward a more cohesive, almost conceptual approach.
Where their debut Black Acid, Pink Rain (2019) was assembled track by track, Ethereal Waters was conceived as a unified arc: six pieces that function as chapters in an open-ended story, tracing a journey of self-discovery toward either inevitable death or a higher form of freedom, depending on the listener's reading. The band relocated to the modern facilities of Arda Recorders in Porto, working with producer Rui Rebelo, while preserving their core identity. Most of the album was captured live in the studio, with minimal overdubs, carrying the unpredictability of their acclaimed live performances onto tape.
Psychedelia, progressive rock, and jazz fusion operate here not as genre labels but as narrative tools — silence weighted just as heavily as sound, tension building through tense chord progressions and dynamic contrasts before yielding to sudden release. Key touchstones cited by the band include Pink Floyd, Grails, and Causa Sui.
