The Boroughs is the original orchestral score for the eight-episode Netflix supernatural drama of the same name, premiering May 21, 2026. The series was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim), with The Duffer Brothers serving as executive producers through their Upside Down Pictures banner.
Set in an ostensibly idyllic retirement community in the New Mexico desert, the story follows a recently widowed engineer who, after a monstrous encounter, joins a band of elderly unlikely heroes to uncover a sinister otherworldly threat. The series consciously channels the spirit of 1980s Amblin adventure cinema — The Goonies, Gremlins, E.T. — combining genuine scares with warmth and wit.
Recorded with live orchestra at Vienna's Synchron Stage, Paesano's score draws from the grand symphonic tradition of 1980s and 1990s film music, weaving sweeping orchestral writing with intimate, character-driven passages.
