Yova are Macedonian born Jova Radevska (vocals/lyrics) and London based Mark Vernon (music).
The duo’s third album Attractive Forces is released via Quartertone Records/Right Track/ Universal.
The album was recorded in London, Cornwall and Macedonia 2024 - 2025. It was produced by Mark Vernon and mixed in Bristol by TJ Allen (Portishead, Bat For Lashes, Hannah Peel)
The album includes 7 brand new songs written by the duo along with a version of The Velvet Underground’s Pale Blue Eyes originally released in 1969.
The album closes with Yova’s reimagining of Macedonian group Memorija’s 1989 hit ‘Fire Under The Stars (Ogan Pod Zvezdite)’ written just before the break-up of Yugoslavia in the early 1990’s
As with their previous two albums, for Attractive Forces Yova have continued to collaborate with the collective of Daniel O’Sullivan ( Sunn O))), Grumbling Fur), Alex Thomas (John Cale, Anna Calvi), Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave), David Rhodes (Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel) and the veteran pedal steel guitar player BJ Cole (Beck, Spiritualized).
Throughout ‘Attractive Forces’ Jova’s beguiling vocal channels into a delicate balance where both vulnerability and strength co-exist. Her lyrics speak of the need for self-empowerment and spiritual fulfilment in an unpredictable world increasingly driven by the technological advances of AI, global uncertainty, conflict and climate change.
Like a film-score the music throughout the album sensitively underscores each separate piece: at times liminal and fragile, at others immersive, cinematic and even maximalist.
