Midnight Memories in Stereo (Remastered) is a compilation spanning two defining chapters of B.B. King's early career: his landmark singles for RPM Records (1951–1956) and the Crown Records sessions of the late 1950s and 1960. "Three O'Clock Blues" (1951) — recorded under primitive conditions at a Memphis YMCA — was King's breakthrough hit, holding the top of the Billboard R&B chart for five weeks and establishing the template he would refine across four decades: a rich, urbane vocal answered phrase by phrase by the prickly commentary of Lucille, his guitar. "Woke Up This Morning" (1953), "Ten Long Years" (1956), and "Bad Luck" (the B-side of the No. 3 hit "Sweet Little Angel," 1956) are among the RPM singles that inspired a generation of British guitarists, from Eric Clapton to Peter Green.
The second half of the tracklist draws on the Crown LP King of the Blues (1960): "What Way to Go," "Long Nights," "Feel Like a Million," "If I Lost You," "I'll Survive," and "I'm King" — sessions featuring the full brass-laden B.B. King Orchestra, in which King's guitar voice was transitioning from the drier, rawer style of the 1950s toward the silkier idiom that would eventually produce "The Thrill Is Gone." The stereo remaster lends these recordings a spatial depth absent from the original mono Crown pressings, bringing Lucille's vibrato and the orchestral arrangements into sharper, more dimensional relief.
