The City Gates - Chimera (2026)

Montreal-based band The City Gates has released their new 8-track album, Chimera, via Icy Cold Records and Velouria Recordz, right ahead of their upcoming European tour. On this record, the band masterfully fuses driving post-punk, expansive shoegaze, and cold darkwave textures. The lyrics and overall atmosphere center heavily around urban alienation, isolation, fractured memory, and existential dread, featuring vocals that sit deeply submerged within the dense mix. Chimera was entirely self-recorded and produced at the band's own Velouria Studios, giving standout tracks like The Great Devourer, Pilgrimage, and It’s a Violent Life a tactile, organic, and amplifier-driven power that avoids digital sterility.
