Mark Scott, performing under the moniker villagerrr, presents his fifth studio album, Carousel — a sweeping and sincere body of work that explores themes of human connection and the search for meaning in an unstable, overexposed era. Shifting away from his early career workflow of solo bedroom recordings and rapid releases, Scott dedicated two years to piecing this record together. The musician heavily embraced collaboration, inviting fellow scene artists (members of Teethe, Rug, and Hemlock) to contribute string arrangements, synthesizers, and intricate vocal harmonies. Musically, the LP seamlessly blends elements of slowcore, shoegaze, indie rock, and folk. The album pairs emotionally direct lyricism critiquing mass consumerism with a demonstration of how relinquishing artistic control and remaining open to collaboration can yield genuine art.
