"Tanz im Café Wernicke (Music From The TV Series "Café Wernicke")" is a studio album by German composer and conductor Peter Thomas and his orchestra (Peter Thomas Sound Orchester), released in 1979. The record is the official soundtrack to the German historical television series "Café Wernicke," which aired on the channel Das Erste.
The series itself, "Café Wernicke" (consisting of 20 episodes), chronicles life in Berlin and Germany through the lens of regulars at an ordinary Berlin café from 1925 to 1952. To convey the spirit of bygone eras (from the Weimar Republic to post-war reconstruction), the iconic German film composer Peter Thomas stylized the music to resemble authentic dance and pop hits of the time. The soundtrack to the series was so extensive that in 1979 the Philips label released two accompanying records.
