What does the world need as the USA spirals under fascist overreach and corrupt governance? An 11 song album of lefty soyboy powerpop!! Channeling their impudent rage into clever songcraft, THE BLUSTERFIELDS have crafted a collection of songs that clearly state their obsessive opposition to encroaching Fascism. Tongue often in cheek but still with no small hint of menace, Thoughts & Prayers is a fun listen despite the angry subject matter.

Stepping out of the shackles of powerpop, THE BLUSTERFIELDS dabble in psychedelic progressive-isms (Progressive... geddit?), stomping, swaggering stadium anthems, snarly punk rock and textural indie rock to subversively undergird the pop confections contained within. THE BLUSTERFIELDS have built on the considerable successes of their prior bands (Stratocruiser, Doleful Lions, X-Teens, Grant Hart, The Argument and Norah Jones) and their previous albums to craft hook-laden vitriol on Thoughts & Prayers.

The first single Here Come The Idiots pretty much lays the groundwork for the rest of the record in terms of both bombastic swagger and witty wordplay. THE BLUSTERFIELDS have flirted with socio-political commentary on their previous four full length releases, but the second Trump attempt to subvert Constitutional Democracy has prompted full throated “How fucking DARE you?” bombast to the growing global outrage. In an age of musical complacency towards the erosion of human rights and basic decency in America (and beyond), THE BLUSTERFIELDS are taking a stand with Thoughts & Prayers that is strident, defiant and uncompromising.

So, if you’re an easily offended person with rightwing leanings, maybe Thoughts & Prayers is not for you but THE BLUSTERFIELDS do not give with scintilla of a fuck if fascists or 32% of the general public are offended. THE BLUSTERFIELDS steadily play the regional circuit but have reached every continent (except Antarctica) with steady promotion to independent terrestrial radio stations worldwide. Their last album, peach charted on many indie radio charts in 2025.
