Robert Goulet - Without You (2025)

Without You is the seventh studio album by Robert Goulet (1933–2007), originally released in September 1964 on Columbia Records and reissued in 2025 by Columbia/Legacy. The record appeared at the height of the singer's popularity — a baritone of rare depth and commanding stage presence who had burst onto the American scene with the role of Sir Lancelot in the original Broadway production of Camelot in 1960 and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1962.
The album was produced by Jim Foglesong and arranged and conducted by Sid Ramin. The program combines Goulet's own compositions with interpretations of classic standards spanning several decades: «I'll Be Seeing You» from the 1930s, «Autumn Leaves» and «Lush Life» from the 1940s, «I'm a Fool to Want You» from 1951, and «Once Upon a Time» from the 1962 Broadway show All American by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams. The latter fits naturally into the theatrical register that defined Goulet's interpretive style.
The album embodies the ideal of traditional American pop vocals in the Columbia era: Ramin's lush orchestral arrangements — crafted by one of New York's foremost orchestrators, a close collaborator of Leonard Bernstein — provide the ideal setting for a voice equally adept at the nuance of a Broadway ballad and the sweep of a full-throated standard. The Columbia/Legacy 2025 reissue restores this intimate album to active circulation, preserving its original program intact.
