"Calamity Jane" is the sole studio album by the eponymous American all-female country band, released in 1982 on Columbia Records and later carried in the Columbia/Legacy catalog. The quartet — Mary Fielder (guitar), Mary Ann Kennedy (drums), Linda Moore (bass) and Pam Rose (lead vocals) — recorded for Columbia between 1981 and 1982. A self-contained all-women lineup was a rarity in early-1980s Nashville, which makes the record a notable document of its era.
Prior to the band's formation, Pam Rose had recorded as a solo artist for Epic and Capitol, and the group's debut single "Send Me Somebody to Love" (1981) reached No. 61 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart. Their biggest success came with a cover of The Beatles' "I've Just Seen a Face" (No. 44), while a rendition of Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" (No. 60) and "Love Wheel" (No. 87) also charted. Musically, the album balances traditional country, country-pop and a light rockabilly drive, mixing original material with recognizable covers.
After 1982, Kennedy and Rose left the band to form the singer-songwriter duo Kennedy Rose, penning hits for Restless Heart, Lee Greenwood and Martina McBride and recording two albums for I.R.S. Records — it was this subsequent songwriting career that secured their place in Nashville history, leaving "Calamity Jane" as their only full-length work in a band format.
