Jazz bassist and composer Hannah Marks is releasing her sophomore album, Feed the Fire, via Endectomorph Music, produced by the acclaimed pianist Jason Moran. Recorded with her acoustic quartet, the nine-track record masterfully blends straightahead, modern, and avant-garde jazz. The material features original compositions inspired by New York City, written after Marks relocated there in 2019, alongside tributes to classic jazz composers like Geri Allen and Dewey Redman. Critics highlight the bassist's unique rhythmic instincts, her ability to drive propulsion and animation comparable to a drummer, and her successful update of the mainstream jazz lexicon through free improvisation and sophisticated arrangements.
