Gli Alluminogeni – Geni Mutanti (1993)

"Geni Mutanti" is the second studio album by the iconic Italian progressive rock band Gli Alluminogeni, released in 1993 on Vinyl Magic.

This release was a significant event for fans of the genre, as it marked the band's unexpected and resounding return after more than 20 years of silence since their classic debut, "Scolopendra" (1972).

Despite the album being recorded in the 1990s, the musicians made a fundamental decision to abandon the trendy synthesizers and digital gloss of the time (neo-progressive). They consciously returned to the analog, warm, and gritty sound of their youth.

The album is dense and energetic. The center of the "Geni Mutanti" universe remains the furious, pathetic organ passages intertwined with the harsh, sometimes bluesy guitar riffs of Pirluigi Gallo. The lyrics, sung in Italian, are imbued with existential reflections and a slight melancholy of mature musicians looking back.
