"Midnight Soul" is a digital compilation album by American bluesman Thomas "Shy Guy" Douglas, released in 2006 by the American label Snailworx.
This release is an archival collection of 15 rare, forgotten, and previously unreleased recordings made by the musician during his golden age (primarily in the 1950s and 1960s). The artist himself passed away long before this release, in 1984.
Shy Guy Douglas is one of the most prominent, yet undeservedly forgotten, bluesmen from Nashville, Tennessee. He was a key figure in the local scene from the 1940s to 1960s, recording for such iconic labels as Excello, Bullet, and Calvert. He became renowned for his relaxed, lazy vocal style and virtuoso playing of the acoustic harmonica.
The 2006 album "Midnight Soul" became the second major posthumous retrospective project to bring the musician back from obscurity (the first was the CD compilation "Stone Doin' Alright," released in the Netherlands in 2004).
