Compendium is a 1993 archival studio album released by New Orleans label A.F.O. Records (catalog number 92-1028-2). It is a compact disc reissue and expanded version of the landmark 1963 album of the same name, recorded by vocalist Tammy Lynn (better known as Tami Lynn, real name Gloria Brown) and the legendary instrumental ensemble AFO Executives.
The album's music straddles two worlds: refined jazz performance and hard-hitting, rocking New Orleans rhythm and blues. The tracks balance swinging interpretations of great American pop standards with rich soul numbers, driven by powerful brass sections, syncopated Southern grooves, and deep gospel vocals.
The 1993 CD release brought this historic recording back from obscurity. Tracks 1 through 11 are the original 1963 material, recorded at the legendary Cosimo Recording Studio by engineer Bert Frilot. Tracks 12 through 15 are valuable archival bonuses, added by Lynne and Battista later, in 1970, in Los Angeles.
