After releasing their debut 10-inch and CD EP on Southern Records (reissued by Solid Brass in 2024), Atombombpocketknife underwent a lineup shift when drummer David Burns — also Justin Sinkovich’s bandmate in Thumbnail — moved to NYC for graduate school. Drummer Matt Espy (Dead Rider, Drag City solo artist) joined Sinkovich (guitar/vocals) and bassist Allison Hollihan, forming a new trio to record their first full-length.

'Alpha Sounds' became the inaugural project at Greg Norman’s (Electrical Audio) home studio and was released by Southern Records in 2000.

Twenty-five years later, Alpha Sounds returns — newly remixed, remastered, and resequenced. The original analog multitracks were transferred and remixed by Che Arthur (now a professional audio engineer), who expanded and modernized the mix before Carl Saff remastered it.
