Parameter were a British underground progressive/psychedelic group active in 1971, best known for their privately recorded album Galactic Ramble. Formed through a loose collective of musicians including Paul Fahy, Keith Barrett, Tony Mortimer, and drummer Lionel “Skins” Busby, the band developed organically through rehearsals and recordings made in domestic living rooms. Working entirely outside the music industry, Parameter recorded the album on a two-track tape machine, learning by doing and embracing experimentation over polish. Their music reflects the free-form, communal spirit of the era, blending extended compositions, naïve ambition, and exploratory sound. Galactic Ramble stands as a sincere document of early-70s underground creativity, shaped as much by circumstance and personality as by musical intent.
