For Fred Frith, the guitar is merely a starting point. It is a user interface onto which he superimposes various concepts that expand the instrument’s sound to include effects, noises, decompositions and reconstructions. Together with Cornelius Claudio Kreusch and Johannes Tonio Kreusch, he created pieces that crashed against one another like waves and flowed into one another. Some had a meditative depth, developing through drone motifs and ostinatos. Others condensed into textures, into sonic bodies that would explode or disintegrate again, only to transition into other constellations.
