Su Violín Mágico y La Pesada (1973) is the only solo studio album by the outstanding Argentine violinist Jorge Pinchevsky, recorded with the supergroup Billy Bond y La Pesada del Rock and Roll. It is a unique, innovative, and absolutely insane monument to early Argentine rock (Rock Nacional).
Jorge Pinchevsky was a unique figure: a classically trained violinist with a conservatory education who went underground, became a hippie, and was the first to introduce the violin into Argentine rock on a consistent basis.
In 1973, Billy Bond (the leading producer and ideologist of the Argentine heavy music scene of the time) lent Jorge his studio and musicians from his band La Pesada to record a solo benefit concert. The sessions featured key figures of the local scene: Alejandro Medina (bass), Claudio Gabis (guitar), Isa Portugal (drums), and Billy Bond himself.
Shortly after the release, fleeing the escalating military dictatorship, Pinchevski emigrated to Europe (where he later played with cult prog bands Gong and Clearlight).
Su Violín Mágico y La Pesada was ahead of its time. It's a wild, raw, yet incredibly technical record that proved that violin in rock music can sound as dirty, powerful, and uncompromising as electric guitar. A true treasure for connoisseurs of the South American progressive underground.
