"Camera Obscura Volume I" (2026) is the sixth studio album by the German studio project Legacy Pilots, formed by multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Frank Us. It was released in May 2026 via Just For Kicks.
This album is part of a large-scale and most complex duology in the project's history – it was released simultaneously with Volume II. Frank Us conceived the split into two discs based on mood: the first offers a brighter, more melodic, and accessible sound, while the second delves into darker, more eccentric, and more experimental structures.
As with previous Legacy Pilots releases, Frank Us is responsible for all writing, keyboards, and guitars, but he enlists the elite of the global progressive scene for the recordings. "Volume I" features an impressive lineup of guest musicians:
Drums: Todd Zuckerman (Styx, tracks 1–6) and Marco Minnemann (The Aristocrats, tracks 7–8).
Bass: Pete Trewavas (Marillion, Transatlantic), Lars Slovak, and Finally George.
Guest Vocalists: John Mitchell (Arena, Lonely Robot, It Bites), Jake Livgren (Proto-Kaw), vocalist Liza, and longtime collaborator Finally George.
Guitarists: The legendary Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs) plays a solo on the opening track, as does young guitarist Seth Hankerson.
