She was born on December 2, 1979 in Erfurt, Germany.
Her parents are Jürgen Catterfeld and Annemarie Catterfeld. At the age of fifteen, she began playing the piano and flute, as well as taking dance and singing lessons. After graduating from high school, she moved to Leipzig, where she studied for two years. After completing her studies, she participated in the singing competition Stimme 2000, where Thomas Stein offered her a recording contract.
Catterfeld has released nine studio albums, initially with songs in German, but the last two in English. In the early 2000s, she began acting. Between 2002 and 2005, she appeared in the German TV series Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten, and in 2005, she got a leading role in the TV series Sophie - The Unwanted Engagement. She also played in the TV films In the Shadow of Truth, Love in Hitler's Shadow, Suddenly 70!, and When the Country Needs Heroes. Later, she also had film roles. Her best-known films include The Little Mermaid, The Little Mermaid 2, The Sputnik Mission, and Beauty and the Beast.
During her 15-year career, Catterfeld sold nearly one million records as a solo artist, making her one of the best-known German female music artists.
