Recorded on our partner label CAvi Music, horn player Sibylle Mahni and pianist Hansjacob Staemmler’s upcoming album Transformations brings together works by Paul Hindemith, Jane Vignery and Olivier Messiaen in a programme that explores change, renewal, and the power of new beginnings.

The selected compositions approach the theme of transformation from different perspectives: Hindemith’s Sonata for Alto Horn contrasts tradition and progress, Vignery’s rarely performed Horn Sonata reflects the upheavals of its time, while Messiaen’s Appel interstellaire opens a perspective of hope and transcendence. Together, the works create a compelling narrative arc that leads from loss and disruption towards resilience and inner renewal.

Through their artistic friendship, Mahni, Professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and prizewinner of major international competitions, and Staemmler bring a distinctive and forward-looking voice to this richly layered programme.

Listen to a pre-release track, the first movement of Hindemith’s Alto Horn Sonata in E-Flat Major. The full album is released digitally on 26 June.
