The WDR Big Band, featuring Rob Bruynen on flugelhorn, performs "Chrissie" by Dave Horler, a long-standing member of the WDR Big Band.

During his early years in London, Horler played for the BBC Radio Orchestra and accompanied artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Bing Crosby. In 1980, he moved to Germany to join the Werner Müller Dance Orchestra as a solo trombonist, composer, and arranger. The WDR Big Band eventually evolved from the Werner Müller Dance Orchestra, and Horler helped shape its sound and musical direction for nearly three decades.

Throughout this period, Horler frequently composed and arranged for the WDR Big Band while also playing lead trombone with his wonderfully distinctive sound and style.

More recently, several of Horler’s compositions and arrangements were newly produced under the musical direction of conductor Stefan Pfeifer-Galilea (WDR Studio 4 / Cologne, February 2022).
