"Zenosyne" is the third full-length studio album by the German instrumental trio Kalamata from Hildesheim, released on June 26, 2026, via Copper Feast Records and Made Of Stone Recordings.
The album was released after a long nine-year hiatus, filled with touring, personal crises, and significant changes within the band (most notably, the departure of founding bassist Mike Blümke, who was replaced by Niki Hosseinian-Sereshki). While the band's first two releases were recorded live and characterized by a raw, straightforward barrage of distortion, "Zenosyne" demonstrates colossal studio work on detail, texture, and sound dimension.
The word "Zenosyne" evokes the aching psychological sensation of time passing and accelerating with increasing speed as we age. The album metaphorically explores the themes of the irreversibility of time, loss, and the acceptance of change.
The entire album is a single monolith, divided into five expansive instrumental canvases. The track titles form a single, capacious and fateful phrase: "There" / "Is" / "No" / "Coming" / "Back." Visually, the concept is complemented by the cover art, which alludes to the ancient German legend of the Maiden of Hildesheim, who lost her fiancé, wandered for a long time in a dark forest, and was saved only by following the distant evening bell of the Kehrwieder (Tower of Return).
"Zenosyne" is a mature, deeply personal, and perhaps Kalamata's most daring work. The trio has transcended the confines of local desert rock, recording one of the most vibrant, atmospheric, and emotionally engaging instrumental albums of 2026.
