David Westlake - Play Dusty For Me (2026)

David Westlake’s second solo album, Play Dusty For Me, recorded in Kilkenny a decade after the dissolution of his band The Servants, is a lean, understated piece of guitar pop. Characterized by an atmosphere of disassociation and twilight melancholy, the record draws comparisons to the most reined-in aspects of The Velvet Underground and the work of Robert Forster, while being influenced by John Lennon and Dusty Springfield. Originally self-released in 2002 via Westlake's Mahlerphone label, the album was limited to just 500 CDr copies, ensuring instant obscurity. Subsequent reissue plans by Angular Recording Corporation fell through, and a 2015 vinyl release by Captured Tracks was similarly restricted to 500 copies for Record Store Day. The current digital-only reissue maintains the ghostly, cult status of this manifestly great indie-pop artifact, which still lacks a widely available physical distribution.
