In the first half of the 20th century, Luigi Mozzani was one of the leading figures in classical guitar and Italian instrument making. A native of Faenza, he worked as a guitarist, composer, educator, and guitar maker, and despite difficult economic circumstances, he became one of the most important figures in his field. After studying the oboe at the Bologna Conservatory, he increasingly devoted himself to the guitar and performed in numerous European and North American cities. In addition to his work as a performer, Mozzani founded his own school of instrument making, whose blend of artisanal tradition and tonal innovation continues to attract international attention to this day. His compositions reflect the Italian melodic tradition, spanning opera and chamber music, and have rarely been heard until now. This recording presents Mozzani’s guitar works on a large scale and thus represents an important contribution to the rediscovery of this repertoire. The performer is Walter Zanetti, accompanied by Monica Paolini in the works for two guitars.
