"Under The Powerlines III (January 2025 – June 2025)" is the third instalment in Jesse Welles's ongoing series of albums collecting his "field recordings" — short, topical folk songs he films alone with his phone, standing beneath a stretch of powerlines in the woods of northwest Arkansas. The format emerged in 2024, after a personal crisis (his father's heart attack) prompted Welles to start "singing the news," responding musically to current events — healthcare, war, immigration policy, consumer culture. The clips quickly racked up millions of views on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, drawing comparisons to Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.
This third volume spans January through June 2025 — 61 tracks running nearly three hours, mixing overtly political commentary ("The Inauguration," "Black Hawks & DEI," "United Health – NYC") with more personal, lyrical sketches ("Wild Onions," "Birds," "Guitars").
