The smooth jazz scene in our country has been enriched by another significant album, and today I am sharing my thoughts on it with you. I know from personal experience that embarking on a solo career after years as a session musician is one of the most challenging—and therefore most exciting—undertakings. Fortunately, Péter Herold—the artist featured in today’s review—has chosen this path, resulting in this new release. His debut album offers nine tracks that blend smooth jazz with elements of pop and soul.

The album opens strongly with "Love of God," a track previously released as a single. It features guest vocals by the outstanding Nikolas Takács; his distinctive voice fits perfectly into an arrangement reminiscent of the genre's greats—evoking, in particular, the colorful and emotive musical world of Kirk Whalum, who remains a brilliant inspiration for younger generations. "The Way You Are" is a genuine hit; its intro immediately sets the mood and captivates the listener. With its instantly catchy melody and precise use of distinctive 80s sounds—creatively reimagined—it has become one of my personal favorites. Gergő Demkó’s guitar work rounds it all out, lending a deeply human touch to the entire song.

The journey continues with equal excitement: "Seabreeze" evokes a breezy American vibe—reminiscent of summer festivals and quality leisure time—complemented by Enci Kiss’s tasteful, delicate vocals. Next, "Better One" surprises the listener with a brilliantly catchy opening; it is a strong composition that delivers in every respect. The musical landscape of "Amen Brother" may feel familiar, as the track features Péter "Peet" Ferencz, who also produced the album. The theme harkens back to their earlier collaboration in the Peet Project (Peti Herold was a member of the band for years), and the composition is rounded out perfectly by Peet’s vocals and violin solo. "Neon Rain" adds a fresh touch, drawing on both R&B and mainstream pop elements to create an emotive, modern ballad. "Soul Spa" offers a refreshing experience for both the ears and the soul; its "urban jazz" sound resonates deeply with me, and it is a delight to hear the song’s narrative told—for the first time on the album—through the alto saxophone, which sounds superb. The complete sonic picture includes a profound, refined ballad titled "Strong Heart," featuring Peti on soprano saxophone alongside Gergő Demkó, who provides stylish piano accompaniment. Finally, "Comfort Zone" brings the album to a fitting close with its dynamic sound and powerful theme. The song—and the album as a whole—proves that it is indeed worth stepping out of one’s comfort zone to showcase one’s talent.

All in all, “All That I Am” is a magnificent debut, brimming with emotion and exciting musical ideas; I offer my sincere congratulations on it. At the same time, I wish for many more albums like this—positive in spirit and forward-looking—for Peti, for the listeners, and, of course, for the burgeoning local scene.
