Finnish drummer and composer Vilho Louhivuori, recognized in Helsinki's jazz and indie scenes for his work with the band VIMMA and collaborations with prominent masters like Iiro Rantala, has announced his solo debut. The record, titled Amalga, is scheduled for release in late May 2026. The album is conceived as an instrumental "amalgamation" of his personal musical experience gathered during his studies at the Berklee College of Music and the Sibelius Academy. The author deliberately rejects rigid genre boundaries, weaving an eclectic narrative at the intersection of prog rock, art rock, and jazz fusion. The compositional structure is built on contrasts, where complex mathematical rhythms sit alongside folk motifs, and aggressive sonic outbursts shift into chamber academic textures. To realize this ambitious project, Louhivuori enlisted an ensemble of young Finnish musicians, adding strings and vibraphone to the sonic palette, which transforms the album into a grand conceptual journey.
