“Folklore” takes listeners on a musical journey through France, Georgia, Hungary, and Spain in the 19th and 20th centuries. Diverse styles and soundscapes are woven together by the spirit of tradition and national character, as well as by the personal memories of the performers—the Swiss-French cellist Christoph Croisé and the Georgian pianist Ana Bakradze. Works composed specifically for this instrumental combination are featured alongside transcriptions that fit seamlessly into their soundscape. Alongside de Falla, Bartók, Tsintsadze, Boulanger, and others, the focus is on the imaginary folklore of Schumann’s Five Pieces in Folk Style.
