Graham Hine - Invisible Man (2018)

"Invisible Man" is a solo studio album by British blues guitarist and vocalist Graham Hine, released on February 2, 2018, on the independent label Sunhouse Records.

Graham Hine is a veteran of the British blues scene, whose roots date back to the British blues boom of the late 1960s. He gained fame as the guitarist and vocalist for the seminal band Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts (who also achieved fame under the pseudonym Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs, with the hit "Seaside Shuffle"). Throughout his career, Hine has remained a devoted fan of traditional American folk and delta blues.

"Invisible Man" is a raw, minimalist, and deeply personal release. Hine performs songs accompanied by acoustic and resonator guitars (dobro), making extensive use of the bottleneck technique. Drummer Malcolm Mortimore joins him on only a few tracks, adding soft percussion.

The album consists of 10 tracks, a mix of Hine's powerful original compositions and delicate covers of classics by his main mentors—Delta Blues icons Snah House, Robert Johnson, Sleepy John Estes, and Fred McDowell.

The CD cover art is a tribute to artist Robert Crumb's famous "Heroes of the Blues" trading card series. It depicts the Invisible Man's costume (hence the album's title) in a distinctive comic book style, hinting at the artist's immersion in the music of the great masters of the past.
