"Weirdo Squad" is a studio album by the Canadian rock band The Purple Helmets (from Nova Scotia), released on May 16, 2025, via the independent label SODEH Records.
"Weirdo Squad" marked the band's return to full-length releases (their earlier albums "Bugs in Jars" and "Milo Stretch" were released in the mid-1990s). The album was recorded in the Cayman Islands under the direction of engineer Paul Suarez (a protégé of renowned producer Andy Wallace).
Musically, the album combines the energy of classic '90s indie rock with elements of Americana and alternative country. The band members themselves note that they were inspired by the work of David Bowie, R.E.M., and Big Star, while some tracks also feature influences from Tom Waits and Wilco. The album's atmosphere ranges from melancholy stories of lost souls seeking redemption to upbeat, radio-friendly guitar tracks.
