George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, Carl Winther, Johnny Aman, Anders Mogensen - Quintonic (2014)

If we look at the list of contributors, it immediately becomes clear that this is not just another hard bop quintet, but a meeting of two of the greatest tenor saxophonists of our time: George Garzone and Jerry Bergonzi are not only exceptional musicians, but also legendary teachers at the Berklee College of Music. Both of them have been educating generations of jazz saxophonists for decades, and their approach to improvisation is studied and highly appreciated all over the world. On the Quintonic album, they finally had the opportunity to calmly “talk” to each other in the same musical language.

This is one of the most exciting post-bop projects of the 2010s. It will really appeal to those who love modern acoustic jazz with a rich world of harmony, long improvisations and real ensemble playing. Here, no one is trying to dazzle the listener with spectacular external effects – everything is based on the knowledge, vast experience of the musicians and their ability to create music in the common dialogue itself.
