United States of Existence, a cult name from the neo-psychedelic revival of the 1980s, return with Lavender Glory Trip — their first new album in decades. The musicians, long separated by distance, individual careers, and time, reunited after a chance discovery: drummer Gary Schwartz unearthed an unfinished song from the archives. Originally conceived as his solo project, the find gradually drew in the whole band, with modern recording technology and rekindled creative chemistry turning it into a full collaborative album.
The record is built around the genre's signature sound — Mellotron, sitar, fuzz guitar, and fuzz bass — wrapped in expansive, homemade-feeling production. The material draws from two sources: old archival fragments and fresh recordings, with the process itself marked by experimentation, spontaneity, and at times surrealist technique.
