Nick Pride & The Pimptones - After Midnight Feast Of Jazz (2012)

The band formed in Newcastle in 2007 around guitarist, composer, and arranger Nick Pride. The band's vision was to fuse funk, soul-jazz, jazz-dance, and heavy breakbeats with a contemporary British sound, while respecting the legacy of the entire English tradition—from mod culture and northern soul to acid jazz and deep funk.
Before signing a record deal, the band independently released their debut album, "It's The Pimptones!!!!!!!," followed by a 7-inch single, "Deeper Pimp," on Wack Records. Afterward, the band was discovered by Milan-based label Record Kicks, which specialized in contemporary funk, soul, and jazz-funk. British DJs Adrian Gibson (Freestyle Records), Dr. Bob Jones, and Dean Rudland also played a significant role, appreciating the band even before the release of their full-length debut. Soon, Nick Pride & The Pimptones began sharing stages with Maceo Parker, Candi Staton, Youngblood Brass Band, and Hot 8 Brass Band, earning a reputation as one of the most interesting young British funk groups.
The idea for a remix album came from Record Kicks, the label that had released The New Mastersounds' successful Re:Mixed project. They decided to reprise the well-established concept and showcase the hidden sides of each original composition. Almost all of the invited remixers were well-versed in the British scene and preserved the recognizable character of the originals. The Japanese author of the booklet notes that the album feels like a standalone work, not just a collection of dance reworkings.
