London-based Saint Etienne co-founder Bob Stanley curates this double LP as a time capsule for the unsung dawn chorus of late 70s and early 80s Radio 2. While Radio 1 chased chart hysteria, breakfast listeners were quietly absorbing soft-focus reveries and adult-contemporary sighs before the kettle had boiled. Hoyt Axton's 'Evangelina' and Lou Rawls' 'Lady Love' ease in with sepia warmth; Air Supply's 'Lost In Love' and Carly Simon's 'You Belong To Me' hover somewhere between duvet and drizzle. Dolly Parton's 'The Bargain Store' and Paul Simon's 'Train In The Distance' provide reflective ballast. It's faintly misty-eyed, and as comforting as over-brewed tea at 6am.
