Following her acclaimed recording of the Florence Price Violin Concertos, Er-Gene Kahng continues her work of reshaping the violin’s recorded landscape with THREADED CURRENCIES, an album of solo contemporary works that examines how musical languages are carried, exchanged, and transformed within a single performer. Bringing together influences from classical, jazz, blues, and electronics, the program is an exploration of how these idioms intersect and accumulate meaning over time.

Central to the project is the idea of “threaded currencies:” musical materials as forms of value that circulate across histories, genres, and communities, and are redefined through performance. Kahng approaches the violin as a polyphonic and textural medium, using resonance, articulation, and layered gesture to suggest multiple voices and lineages within a single line. The result is a program that unfolds as a continuous fabric rather than a series of discrete works.
