Ennio Morricone & Astrud Gilberto - Le Casse (2026)

Music Box Records and Warner Chappell Music France have released a remastered CD reissue of the score for Le Casse, a 1971 neo-noir crime film directed by Henri Verneuil. The movie features Jean-Paul Belmondo as the thief Azad, who attempts to outrun a corrupt policeman portrayed by Omar Sharif after a high-stakes heist in Athens. Henri Verneuil utilized this project to emphasize Belmondo's physical performance and the era's specific portrayal of virility. Ennio Morricone composed the musical score to explore the emotional complexities and vulnerabilities of the characters rather than focusing solely on traditional masculine dominance. The music utilizes a poignant love theme to highlight the relationship between Azad and Hélène, while also incorporating pastiche pieces to serve as atmospheric background music in hotel scenes. Produced by Claudio Fuiano, this latest edition includes four bonus tracks featuring performances by Astrud Gilberto and arrangements by Bruno Nicolai.
