Baklava Express - Sababa (2026)

New York-based Baklava Express blends Ashkenazi and Mizrahi folk traditions with the broader musical heritage of the Mediterranean, producing a sound that is distinctive yet defies genre classification. The project is led by award-winning oud player and composer Josh Kaye, joined by violinist Daisy Castro, bassist James Robbins, and percussionist Jeremy Smith. The band's varied musical backgrounds have shaped its eclectic style. Baklava Express has performed at venues including the Brooklyn International Music Festival, the Greek Jewish Festival, and the Nyack Jazz Festival, and contributed music to the animated short film "Ariel" by director Conor McFinn. Their debut album, "Dávka," was released in 2023, followed by their second album, "Sababa," in April 2026.
