Maera is the second full-length studio album by the American rock band The Heavy Eyes from Memphis, Tennessee. It was released digitally on December 29, 2012, and officially on vinyl and CD in March 2013 via Kozmik Artifactz.
Maera cemented The Heavy Eyes' reputation as one of the most driving exponents of blues-based stoner rock of the 2010s. The trio (Tripp Shumake, Wally Anderson, and Eric Garcia) have ironically described their music as "psychedelic delta blues that sounds like a skeleton on a burning Mississippi River boat hurtling back to 1969."
The record is filled with distorted amps and heavy riffs in the spirit of early Led Zeppelin and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, but with a modern, dirty, dense sound. The band maintains a balance between driving rhythms and psychedelic slowdowns.
