I Am The Manic Whale - Bumper Book of Mystery Stories (2023)

"Bumper Book of Mystery Stories" is the fourth studio concept album by the British progressive rock band I Am The Manic Whale, released in July 2023.

The album is inspired by classic children's and teen storybooks about mysteries and adventures (in the vein of British annuals). Each track is a standalone illustrated story—from mysterious incidents and historical detective stories to fantastical legends.

The album's sound is in the best traditions of symphonic and neo-progressive rock with a vibrant British flavor. The music abounds with honeyed keyboard parts (including Mellotron and Hammond), complex time signatures, memorable melodic lines, and expansive multi-instrumental epics.

The album included large-scale tracks such as "The Kaveri River Sugar Mill" and "Ernie's Depot," and was accompanied by a detailed booklet with original illustrations and lyrics for each "story."
