Roots Radics - Junjo Presents: The Evil Curse Of The Vampires (2016)

In 1981, Jamaican sound engineer and dub pioneer Scientist released the landmark album Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires, produced by Henry "Junjo" Lawes. Instrumental backing was recorded at Kingston's iconic Channel One Studios by the acclaimed The Roots Radics Band, with Scientist performing the final studio mixing at King Tubby's.

The record reimagined reggae tracks originally performed by Michael Prophet, Wailing Souls, Johnny Osbourne, and Wayne Jarrett, reframing them through spacey echo, dense reverb, and heavy bass lines.

The album gained widespread global recognition when several tracks were featured on the fictional radio station K-Jah in the iconic video game Grand Theft Auto III. Later, the release became the center of a landmark legal dispute between Scientist and Greensleeves Records, where US courts determined that recording mixers are not recognized as primary copyright authors, leaving full ownership with producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes.
