Loren Connors, David Grubbs - Somewhere in the Wind (2026) [Hi-Res]

Musicians David Grubbs and Loren Connors have released their third collaborative album, Somewhere in the Wind. Unlike their previous studio-bound, delicate records Arborvitae (2003) and Evening Air (2024)—which centered on piano and lower-volume arrangements—this new release marks their first fully live album consisting exclusively of expressive electric guitar duos. Captured during live performances in crowded Brooklyn venues in 2025, the record stands out as the noisiest, most raucous, and free-form entry in their duo discography. The story of their creative partnership traces back to 1992, when David Grubbs, transitioning from the post-punk outfit Bastro to the drumless project Gastr del Sol, discovered Loren Connors's album In Pittsburgh. This discovery led to the reissue of the record on Dexter’s Cigar, a label Grubbs co-ran with Jim O'Rourke, initiating a long-standing collaboration built on intuitive interaction and uninhibited guitar improvisation.
