The Odyssey Cult - Vol. 3 (2026) [Hi-Res]

Ethan Miller's musical project The Odyssey Cult, which existed for a decade primarily through home-tape experiments and shifting lineups, has fully emerged as a cohesive psychedelic supergroup. The material for the album Vol. 3 was conceived by Ethan Miller alongside Comets on Fire founding member Ben Flashman and keyboardist Anthony Taibi during writing sessions in California before evolving into a full-fledged ensemble effort.

The foundation of the group's expanded sound is anchored by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, whose driving percussion provides structural rock weight to the arrangements. The album's dense palette incorporates expressive free jazz and gospel-inflected saxophone passages by Zoh Amba, alongside vocal contributions from Brigid Dawson (ex-Osees), Paula Frazer (Tarnation), and Inna Showalter (Magic Fig), adding elements of dream pop and pastoral prog. Across eight tracks, the record explores a diverse stylistic spectrum spanning sludge rock, motorik, space rock, psych-drone, and ten-minute jazz improvisations.
