Zappa Zippa Zuppa Zeppa! (2014) is a special conceptual tribute album and academic interpretation of Frank Zappa's work, recorded by the Italian progressive rock ensemble Greenwall, led by composer and keyboardist Umberto Nicoletti. It was released on the independent Italian label Mellow Records.
The title Zappa Zippa Zuppa Zeppa! is a postmodern pun, paying homage to the playful, satirical, and unpredictable genius of Frank Zappa.
Unlike standard tribute albums, Greenwall don't simply rework classic Zappa themes, but completely rearrange them in the vein of avant-garde chamber rock (RIO) and eclectic prog. The recording interweaves quotes from Zappa's works (from the Mothers of Invention period and his solo jazz-rock work) with original interludes and suites by Umberto Nicoletti.
