Cellist Julian Schwarz makes his debut on Delos with a groundbreaking album featuring Arthur Foote’s complete works for cello, including the world’s first commercial recording of his Cello Concerto. As the only composer of the “Boston Six” to have completed his entire education in the United States, Arthur Foote could be considered the first homegrown talent of the U.S. Although his works are—for inexplicable reasons—rarely performed and underappreciated, his distinctive sense of melody and his rich harmonic language are enchanting; he composed a wealth of music for cello and piano, which is performed here by GRAMMY®-nominated cellist Julian Schwarz, pianist and partner Marika Bournaki, and internationally acclaimed conductor Gerard Schwarz with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
