Blues and Beyond (2001) is a solo studio album by virtuoso British saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith, a key figure in the British blues boom and jazz-rock, known for his work with Blues Incorporated, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Graham Bond Organization, and Colosseum. Released under the name Dick Heckstall-Smith And Friends on the Blue Storm Music label, Blues and Beyond is a large-scale session recording that brings together the cream of British blues and progressive rock from the 1960s and 1970s. Poet and producer Pete Brown (co-writer of Cream hits) helped assemble an impressive lineup of guests with whom Heckstall-Smith collaborated throughout his forty-year career.
The album pays homage to the genre's classics while offering contemporary prog and jazz-rock compositions, co-written by Hextall-Smith with Pete Brown and Jon Hiseman.
