Dos Santos - Es Amor (2026) [Hi-Res]

Chicago-based quintet Dos Santos, led by songwriter Alex E. Chávez, has delivered their fourth full-length studio album Es Amor, marking the band's first record in five years following their breakthrough City of Mirrors (2021). Produced by Grammy winner Beto Martinez (known for his work with Grupo Fantasma and Money Chicha), the 10-track collection shifted its direction after Chávez discovered that a newly written melody mirrored a 1980s home cassette recording titled "El Amor" made by his father. This coincidence reframed the album as an intimate meditation on migration, generational memory, and inherited songs.

The record's arrangement relies on the flexible rhythm section of bassist Jaime Garza, drummer Daniel Villarreal, and percussionist Peter "Maestro" Vale, combined with guitar work by Nathan Karagianis. The group reimagines traditional cumbia by blending it with psychedelia, jazz, funk, and Latin alternative sensibilities. Moving away from the layered maximalism of their earlier output, the band embraces a more vulnerable, groove-oriented atmosphere, ranging from energetic tracks like "Money Gun" and "Sōl" to reflective pieces such as "Cielos," "El Lobo," and "Aldama."
